Throttle valves are used in gasoline engines to regulate the air flow. They are located in the intake tract of the engine and have a significant influence on engine performance. The entire assembly is commonly known as a throttle body system.
Thanks to our extensive experience in the development and manufacture of gas mixing components, we have been able to build up a wide range of expertise that benefits our products and therefore our customers.
The opening angle of the throttle valve is divided into different ranges. The first starts with the lower mechanical stop, which keeps the valve open by a minimal gap. This ensures that the valve does not get stuck in the housing. From here, the lower throttling range begins and ends at the emergency limp-home point. In the event of a system failure, this point is reached independently by spring force, without electrical or mechanical actuation. The further opening range extends to the fully open valve, which is again limited by a mechanical upper stop.
Throttle valves were previously operated by a bowden cable. Nowadays, they almost exclusively use an integrated electric motor, called ETC (Electronic Throttle Control). This enables improved engine control, reduced exhaust emissions and fuel consumption. Driver assistance systems such as traction control, gearshift assistant, cruise control, and various driving modes can also be integrated.
Our product portfolio currently includes throttle bodies with one to four throttle valves. The development of such multiple throttle bodies in particular requires a lot of experience to ensure flawless operation.
Each product will be designed to customer specifications. Depending on the requirements, the throttle body can also be equipped with an injection system and sensors, e.g. for position detection and pressure measurement
